Tan Chin? No Energy? You May Have Iron Deficient Anemia

Sometimes I see clients with that characteristic tan mark around their cheeks and chin indicating early iron deficient anemia. When this happens the client is feeling run down, but not run down enough to cause them to go to a doctors office–yet. It’s my job to help the person supplement their diet so they don’t have to take iron pills, which can be harmful on the system…especially for iron, if a little is good, a lot is not better!

Iron supplement overdose can cause stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, black stools, lethargy, weakness, collapse, weak/rapid heartbeats, shallow breathing, convulsions and coma. Try getting those same symptoms from eating parsley and taking a couple teaspoons of blackstrap molasses every now and then. THAT won’t happen.

A safe preventative dose of blackstrap molasses is 1-2 teaspoons per day for a full-sized adult. Three teaspoons per day would be a maximum dosage if you have that characteristic tan on the cheeks. For children, give 1 teaspoon up to three times a week as a preventative, mineral supplement, and to give color to the face. Both parsley and blackstrap molasses are packed with minerals (including those trace minerals we need.)

Iron overload is linked to some cancers, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and endocrine dysfunction. It is easy to overload when taking iron pills. It is much safer sticking to natural food sources for iron.

Other foods high in iron, besides blackstrap molasses and parsley include: Cherries, prunes, leafy green vegetables, poultry liver, legumes (peas/beans/lentils), eggs, fish and whole grains. If you crave these foods, it may be an indication that you are low in iron. You have to be REALLY low before it will show up on a blood test, so do your body a favor and eat more of these foods.

Herbs high in iron include alfalfa, bilberry, burdock, catnip, yellow dock root, watercress, sarsaparilla (in root beer) and nettles. I think your safest choices are nettles (also for itchy skin disease and low calcium,) catnip (also good for sleep disorders,) burdock (also a good liver cleanser,) and alfalfa (a bit over usedI see some allergic reactions with this.)

The Right Way… And The Wrong Way… To ‘Close’ Your Prospects

Last week I met up with an old friend of mine at one of the
local cigar retailers.

The store was having a little get together for their
customers, which basically means they had one of the
manufacturers reps there, and they featured a discount on
that brand of cigars, for anyone making a purchase that
particular evening.

I hadn’t seen this guy in a long time — we used to do a lot
of business together years ago — and even though he’s a
lawyer, it was still nice to get together with him again.

Anyway, when I walked into the store, I was immediately
given a ticket for the evening’s drawing, and then straight
away into the sales pitch.

It went something like this:

“If you buy La Gloria Cubana cigars, you get one free, and
then you’ll get another ticket for the drawing… But if
you buy a box, you get 10% off, and then you’ll also get a
discount on your next purchase, plus you’ll get 8 or 9
coupons extra, depending on what box you buy… The free
cigar isn’t available here, you get it from the girl behind
the counter over there when you pay… now if you buy one
of these 3 boxes over here, you get 9 coupons and a…”

Ay..yai..yai!

At this point, I told the guy he needed to make things
simpler for me, that he was giving me an information overload.

And see, sometimes, that’s exactly what happens when you
give your prospects too many choices to choose from, instead
of, for example, offering them “This” or “That”.

Period.

Because when your prospects become overloaded with more
information than they need, you know what happens?

Exactly — they get put off and then wind up doing nothing.

So whenever your closing, remember to make it short…

And sweet.

Now go sell something,

Mont-Blanc Doubles in Height since 2001 According to Glaciologists

New detailed Global Positioning System measurements taken on the 17-18th September have proven that Monte Bianco amounts to 4810.5 m. Monte Bianco is veiled by a dense icecap which has grown by 2.9 meters in scarcely two years however more surprising the amount of the ice has all but doubled up . Least ways that is according to the professionals.

The bulk of snow and ice was computed for the initial time in 2002. It amounted to 14400 cubic metres above 4780 meters. It equaled only 13700 cubic meters in 2002 maybe due to the heat wave with positive temp as high as 4850 metres alt.. Nevertheless the icecap has almost increased twofold since then and now measures 23000 cubic metres.

Chamonix village’s respected near by weather man Nena Ramirez explained the growth in the size of the ice is one of the perverse effects of global warming: Snow hasn’t grown generally in the Alpes only with climate change we are seeing more hot prevailing westerly air currents that bring in rain at lower altitudes however in summer this means dense snowfall that rests at higher altitude than 4000 metres altitude thus the mass bulk of the ice cap is rising. Compare that to the situation during winter time when snow crystals are extremely cold and are moved by air currents and so do not settle down on the crest.

Chamonix Haute Savoie is not just renowned for Mount Blanc it is also a well renowned skiing town and climbing mecca with lot’s of ski deals and lodging offers to be had. Moreover at merely 1 hr from Geneva airport it is perfect for a ski weekend.

Liquid Vitamin Supplements

Liquid vitamin supplements are available everywhere in a wide range of flavors. Many of these are sold at prices of $40 and more, as most of these liquid vitamins are sold through multi-level marketing agents. Manufacturers claim that the absorption rate of liquid vitamin supplements is over 90%.

Old age worsens the human body’s ability to absorb nutrients as a result of reduced levels of digestive enzymes. Vitamins can be said to be “locked up,” and digestive enzymes are the keys to release them. Among the elderly, this can contribute to lower levels of vitamins B2, B6, and B12, as well as a decreased absorption of zinc. More than the quantity of intake, what matters is the quantity of absorption by the body tissues. With liquid vitamin supplements, it is believed that there is a higher level of absorption, and that more nutrients reach their intended destinations.

A nutrient enters the bloodstream through the upper intestinal wall linings. Vitamins, when suspended or dissolved in a liquid for more than a few hours, can become unstable and lose their ability to carry the enzymes in usable form. Hence, the nutrients can get destroyed when they reach the digestive acid aids in the stomach, before they reach the upper intestine where the highest absorption occurs. However, taking vitamins in their liquid form ensures that the unnecessary ingestion of chemicals in the form of binders like DCPwhich cannot be digested and which eventually forms a plaque-like substance in the bodyand toxic heat chemical solvents, such as ether, toluene, and benzene, is avoided.

People having problems swallowing or absorbing solids have been observed to get good results with liquid vitamins. It is also easier to administer to infants and little children with vitamin deficiencies, unlike the tablet counterparts. Regular daily exercise, positive thinking, intake of whole healthy food, and effective management of chronic stress in daily lives are also ways to aid in the absorption process. It is advisable to take vitamins with food, when possible, as the digestive enzymes are stimulated when eating and aid in nutrient absorption. Here, liquid nutritional supplements are believed to do a better job as they provide an effective and reliable system for nutrient delivery to the bloodstream.

Selling Is A Contact Sport!

Last Sunday, I watched a martial arts test, featuring most of the belt levels, including those just a few notches under black.

As always, it was interesting. Two young women were testing for senior belts, and as part of this rite of passage, they were “served,” which means expertly struck and kicked by the judges, themselves Black Belts.

Apparently, the candidates weren’t expecting to receive such contact without having donned their protective gear, a chest protector, leg and arm pads, and sparring gloves. One of them was visibly shaken from the experience, though I’m sure she wasn’t harmed, physically.

Karate is a contact sport, so if you’re at an advanced level, every day you can expect to be challenged, whether it’s in the dojo by an instructor, or out on the street, by an assailant. It just goes with the territory.

But selling, in its way, is also a contact sport.

We can and should expect to be roughed up as we go about this activity. Undoubtedly, in the fullness of time, we’ll be pummeled by rejection, rebuffed by people who have been trained to only say no, and insulted by folks who purport to know more about our products and services than we do.

But just like the martial arts, selling is an opportunity to refine our personalities, to iron out wrinkles in our emotional dispositions. Everything doesn’t always go our way, and we must face setbacks and disappointments, constantly, if we hope to prevail, to succeed.

We come up against our limitations on a daily basis, just as karate students do, when they fear they’re overmatched by a bigger, or faster, or better-conditioned sparring partner. The victory isn’t in always “winning,” it is secured when we step on the mat, facing the dragon of the day, rising above our previous achievements.

Selling makes us tough, it has to, otherwise we don’t prosper.

So, the next time a customer “serves” you, smile as it’s happening, and just tell yourself that the occupation you’ve chosen is also a contact sport!

Consumer Effort And The Purchase Decision

It is a basic tenet of behavioral psychology that people engage in behavior that takes the least effort and provide the highest payoff. If someone see’s a product as being very valuable but the effort to purchase that product is large it will decrease the value of the product and they will probably not engage in the behavior required to acquire the product.

In Keynote’s recent publication concerning the online retail industry, they cite several factors that lead to diminished customer experience during online retail consumption. Diminished customer experience can be translated as “acquiring this product or service takes to much requires to much effort to acquire the product or service’s perceived benefit”.

25% of consumers cited having to register in order to make a purchase as their number one frustration. 37% cited research oriented reasons as being highly frustrating and diminishing their consumer experience.

Realizing that online consumers are motivated by either a goal achievement orientation or an experiential orientation and these are supported by a functionality variable we can see that registering in order to purchase a product or service impedes the experiential motivation and inability to obtain consumer information about a product or service impedes the goal achievement motivation.

So, considering the online consumption experience from a behavioral psychological viewpoint, consumers will be less loyal to websites in which their experience is not positive, and their efforts to obtain information are not conveniently rewarded.

Online interactivity needs to be pleasurable, and information should be provided in an up front, easily acquirable manner. This means examining your purchasing process, your information gathering mechanisms, and your search and information acquisition mechanism in such a manner as to render them client center, pleasurable, and functional.

Remember, online consumers will be more likely to engage in a purchase process if the perceived benefit of the product or service outweighs the perceived effort to acquire that product or service.

Fresh Fruit: Make a Healthy Decision

Considering the state of America today in regard to weight and nutrition concerns, a lovely fruit basket is not a bad idea to have around. It’s great to have a basket of fresh fruit in the kitchen for when you get those between-meals snack attacks, or especially if you enjoy sweets, a fruit basket close at hand can help thwart your unhealthy desires to snack on cookies or cupcakes etc.

Not only for yourself but also for your family and even for the friends who visit you it is great to encourage healthy eating habits. Eating fruit regularly is a good place to start. As a snack between meals, as part of your meal, or even as a substitute for those midnight sweets you crave. A basket of fresh fruit always stocked with your favorites is one of the best kinds of health incentives for the home.

If you have young children they can develop a real taste for nutritious foods if that is what they are eating at home. Encouraging children to have a piece of fruit instead of candy or cookies may not be something they mind too much. In fact, sometimes children will prefer fruits to other kinds of sweets because their taste buds have adapted to the flavor. This is one wonderful way to avoid child obesity as well as malnutrition, it will also carry over into the child’s adult life, they will have healthier eating habits and continue those healthy eating habits.

So keeping fresh fruit baskets in your home is a great ideabut what about the snacking you do away from home. I suggest keeping a few pieces of fruit in the office break-room, or make sure to bring a piece of fruit for lunch. It may even be a welcomed suggestion to keep a basket of fresh fruit in the break room for all of the employeesyou know, instead of those doughnuts and cookies and fudge bars that always seem to appear.

Just because you are not skinny, that doesn’t mean you get the nourishment you need. In fact, you could simply be building up all of the bad things for your body and none of the good. If you are not eating right, it is very important that you find healthy foods that you enjoy and try to make major changes in your eating habits.

Fish Oil Benefits – 7 Major Fish Oil Health Benefits

Fish oil benefits? You bet! Fish oil health benefits are important and wide-ranging. Proven by numerous clinical studies, fish oil benefits range from brain health to heart health to pregnancy health.

Fish oil health benefits come primarily from the two Omega 3 essential fatty acids in fish oil — DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and to a lesser extent EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). While plant sources such as flax seed will provide the body with Omega 3 oil, the body must convert it into DHA and EFA, and that conversion can be difficult for some people or for elderly people. However, fish oil provides the body with DHA and EPA in a natural form that can easily be assimilated.

Here are seven major fish oil benefits:

1. Lowers blood triglycerides – high levels of triglycerides are known to be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

2. Helps reduce likelihood of blood clots – fish oil benefits include the prevention of blood platelets from sticking together and forming blood clots.

3. Lowers mild high blood pressure – fish oil helps lower blood pressure when it is due to high cholesterol and hardening of the arteries.

4. Reduces inflammation from rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis and gout – fish oil health benefits come from the DHA and EPA that reduce the amount of inflammation-causing substances.

5. Lowers risk of developing Altzheimer’s Disease – studies have found that fish oil seems to help protect the nervous system.

6. Reduces depression rates – the lack of DHA has been linked to higher incidence rates of depression.

7. Improves immune system function – fish oil benefits and studies have linked lowered risk of breast cancer and prostate cancer to the consumption of fish oil.

And there are more fish oil benefits! From lowered risk of age related macular degeneration to reducing the risk of osteoporosis to benefits for Type II diabetics, fish oil health benefits are truly spectacular.

However, there are some precautions that you should be aware of when considering your sources for fish oils. Some fish oils can contain:

* Contaminants such as PCB’s and heavy metals like mercury

* Additional additives to keep the fish oil from becoming rancid during the transporting and encapulating process

* Low DHA levels

Inferior fish oil products do exist, while at the same time fish oils are available that are harvested from pristine ocean waters. Be sure the fish oils you consume to enjoy fish oil health benefits contain high levels of DHA and EPA and are free from the heavy metals. Read as much as you can about even more fish oil benefits that provide an amazing array of health benefits.

Seafood and Ten of Its Health Benefits

Who says there is something fishy on fish oils, shellfish, and other seafoods when it comes to health benefits? That is absolutely a fishy story.

Nowadays, people have come to realize the importance of seafoods in our diet. Various studies and researches have proved that the best sources of good fats, vitamins, and minerals to promote good health can actually be found on different seafoods. The only drawback is that it took so many years for most people to realize the health benefits of having seafoods in their diet.

So for those who still do not understand why most people are into sashimi and grilled tuna these days, just keep on reading and I will let you on for some secret. Here’s why:

1. Fish is your heart’s best friend!

Undeniably, fishes are exceptional low-fat food. The fats contained on fishes and fish oils are high in Omega-3 fatty acids. These are polyunsaturated fatty acids known to protect the body against heart diseases. These so called “good fats” also aids in lowering cholesterol, decreasing blood clotting factors, increasing beneficial relaxation in larger arteries and blood vessels, and decreasing inflammatory process in blood vessels.

2. One serving of fish two to three times per week keeps arthritis away.

There have been clinical trials that have shown that one serving of fish two to three times a week can actually lessen arthritis symptoms by fighting inflammation, decreasing fatigue and reducing morning stiffness.

3. Some varieties of seafoods were proven to strengthen the immune system.

Studies showed that certain varieties of fishes and shellfishes have very high antioxidant E, aside from vitamins E, C, D, and A. These antioxidants boost the immune system and also lower the risk of heart disease by reducing buildup of plaque in coronary arteries.

4. Seafoods in pregnant woman’s diet make smart and healthy kids!

According to several researchers, the Omega-3 fatty acids found in different types of fishes and shellfish can be very vital during an unborn child’s development in the womb. It greatly assists in neural development as well as eye development.

There had also been studies showing how these essential fatty acids have a positive effect on Attention deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in children.

Also, a healthy diet for children with two to three servings of fresh seafoods per week can definitely increase their learning ability and improve their health in the future.

5. The fatty acids in fishes can alleviate the symptoms of depression.

Omega-3 fatty acids can also ease the signs of depressions in patients who do not respond to typical anti-depressant medications.

Studies showed that depressed patients who had greater amount of seafoods in their diet, particularly fish, had feasible lower symptoms such as sadness, anxiety, and sleeping problems.

6. Shellfish ensures healthy skin and eyes.

Different varieties of shellfish are rich in vitamins and mineral, aside from being very low in fat content. Hence, these guarantees healthy skin and promotes good eyesight because vitamins contained in shellfish aid in formation and use of red blood cells and muscles.

7. Children who eat oily fish may have lower risk of getting asthma.

Studies showed that children who were able to receive at least 300mg of fish oil a day had undergone noteworthy improvement of asthma symptoms. This is because fish oils aid in controlling food allergens and environmental allergens in the body.

8. Fish heaters have lower risks of getting cancer.

The Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish are the essential components responsible for protection against cancer. In fact, there had been reports that people who eat fish regularly have low risks of cancers of the mouth, throat, stomach, colon, rectum, pancreas, lung, breast, and prostate.

9. Fatty fish are best natural source of Vitamin D.

In areas like the North America were people do not get enough Vitamin D, a nutrient important for stronger bones, substituting foods can be difficult because of a lack of vitamin D rich options.

However, after some careful studies, most nutritionist found out that fatty fishes are excellent sources of vitamin D. They said that a serving of fatty fish a day can provide 90% of today’s recommended dietary requirement for vitamin D.

10. Essential fatty acids found in most seafood variety may reduce the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

Various reports have recommended that long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly those of the omega-3 family, can actually slow mental decline and even reduce the development of Alzheimer’s disease in older people. These kinds of polyunsaturated fatty acids are structural components of neural membranes and are linked to some aspects of nervous tissue functions.

With these kinds of fatty acids in the body, inflammation and proinflammatory substances in the brain are reduced from which Alzheimer’s disease, a type of dementia, is linked.

With all these viable health benefits of seafoods, no one can ever smell something fishy when eating fish and shellfish. Undeniably, seafoods are remarkable creatures marvelously made just for the health of it!

So just what is this ‘Americana’ music?

Basically, Americana is Country Music. Hold on! Wait! Don’t go clicking away yet!

We’re not talking here about the cliches of Line Dancing, Stetsons and songs about losing Wife, Dawg and Car (not necessarily in that order).

What we’re talking about is music with attitude, whether that be protest songs, introspective ballads or just plain old bad-ass hell-raising good time music – country yes, but Americana is also rock, blues, traditional bluegrass and even soul. Music without boundaries, held together by a common thread of realism, honesty and heart.

You like Springsteen and Neil Young? Well, Steve Earle is probably the most high profile name in Americana. If you’re a fan of The Boss and Neil Young in equal measures and you haven’t come across the phenomena that is Steve Earle then do yourself a favour and get hold of ‘Guitar Town’ or ‘Copperhead Road’ and see what you’ve been missing.

A whole new generation of singer-songwriters influenced by pre-’Achy, Breaky Heart’ country music are making their mark today, inspired by another anti-hero Townes Van Zandt (a better songwriter than Dylan, many would say). And don’t think Americana music is a closed-shop club of world-weary men. Take a listen to Tift Merritt as an example of a young girl with vocals as soulful and powerful as Aretha, or Patty Griffin, who can fell a person at fifty feet with her soaring vocals and incisive lyrics, and can blow you away with the hardest rocking alternative guitar music around.

So you don’t want deep and introspective? Okay, Shooter Jennings might be just up your street – the son of Waylon, Shooter has hung out with Guns’n'Roses and obviously listened to Ted Nugent as a kid. Good time music, next generation. Take a listen on a road trip and you’ll be singing along. Guaranteed.

Americana has its own association, and it is close to having its own Billboard chart. But Americana is independent; the Americana Music Association could just as easily have been named the Awkward Musicians Association. It is a free spirit, embraces all comers and loves the diversity of the dobro, mandolin, Les Paul and Stratocaster. It is conservative and liberal in equal measures and pretty darn hard to pin down.

In 2005 the Americana Music Association celebrated its 4th annual Honors and Awards ceremony which was held for the first time at the famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville Tennessee, the spiritual home of Country Music. The AMA is happy to co-exist with the Country Music Association, but where the CMA Awards are a glitzy, showbiz affair, the AMA Awards are more down home, more real. Heck, they even have a ‘Freedom of Speech’ award.

Americana music is deserving of your attention. The Americana Music Association is run by people who care deeply about the music, about its influence and about retaining the true spirit of traditional music and traditional values. Yes, we love our Country Music and our singer-songwriters and our Texan attitudes, but you won’t find any inverted snobbery about Shania, Tim or Faith.

So, enough words … track down the music and judge for yourself.
