(4) Making excuses for failings. Your teacher never bought “The dog ate my homework!” and your boss isn’t going to buy “The finance department gave me the wrong figures!” In the grown-up world, you have to take responsibility for what you are responsible for! You’ll never earn respect by blaming others when things go wrong.

(5) Saying unfavorable things about previous employers. Even if you left a job because the boss was an egomaniac who took credit for all of your hard work, verbally abused you in front of others, and poisoned the plant on your desk, don’t say anything bad about him/her during an interview. When asked “Why did you leave your last job?” say something like “My manager and I both agreed that my advancement opportunities were limited there and obtaining another position was the best option for me and my career goals.”

(6) Having a poor/limp handshake. Why do people think you’ll be a lousy employee if you have a lousy handshake? That’s not really logical, is it? Doesn’t matter. It just turns people off and gives them a bad impression of you. So make your handshake firm and confident but not bone-crushing. (It’s not a competition to see who winces first!)

UK retro glamsters The Modern have been unceremoniously thrown out of the singles chart. They have been found guilty of attempting to fix their chart position by bulk buying both CD’s and downloads. The band crash landed in the chart last week at number 13. I don’t think it would have been the sales patterns that alerted the OCC to the fix but the simple fact that a record so shockingly awful could have entered the chart that high.

Chart rigging is an art form that has been perfected by record companies over the years. As an ex record shop employee I have been known to not scan certain records through the reader in a vain hope of lowering chart positions and scan a few sly ones for my favourite artists. Working for what was one of the big chains at the time I never got offered bribes but friends who worked in local independent shops did. Free t-shirts, cd’s or gig tickets where offered in exchange for a few extra swipes of the light pen. This was in the age before electronic tills, yes I am that old.

Payola Scandals (paying for airplay) are as old as rock n’ roll itself. In 1959 the first major investigation in payola began and it quickly gathered evidence that resulted in 25 DJ’s being charged. The highest profile casualties of the scandal where Dick Clark and Alan Freed. Freed the John the Baptist of rock n roll refused to accept or deny the claims had it ruined his career.

Payola is not consigned to history. In 2000 a Texas Radio station was fined $2,000 for being paid to play Bryan Adams records. Its likely that the fine would not have even been the cost of a single play that the station charged. In July 2005 Song/BMG settled with the New York attorney general Elliott Spitzer to the tune of $10 million. According to some unnamed sources, the pay-for-play was quite overt with one Sony executive saying that “Please be advised that in this week’s Jennifer Lopez Top 40 Spin Increase of 236 we bought 63 spins at a cost of $3,600.

The UK market in the 80’s used the mass marketing of singles in order to promote/force records further up the charts. Singles released in a varity of format, single, picture disc, coloured vinyl, poster pack, double 7″ single the list was almost endless.

The result was that the chart company now restricts formats to only three styles of release. One of these must still be a physical format such as CD, vinyl or cassette. The Gorllias reportedly released just 300 copies of the single “Feel Good Inc.” in a 7″ vinyl format only in order to get the single into the lower reaches of the chart three before the download became available. It was a kind of promo release with chart in its sights.

The Official Chart Company issued the following statement regarding the modern;

During the course of last week OCC’s market research agency identified unusual sales patterns related to the physical formats of this release. Further security checks revealed that significant bulk purchases had been made on this single through one online retailer.

Many of the bulk sales identified were traced to persons and/or organisations seemingly connected to the band. For this reason OCC took the decision to disqualify the record from the chart published on Sunday (March 12) as the vast majority of sales could not be verified as genuine purchases by music buyers.

The OCC added that while they make small allowances for keen fans trying to improve their favourite band’s chart placings, in this instance “standard data checks revealed hundreds of copies being purchased by a handful of individuals. Under these circumstances to preserve the integrity of the Official Top 40 the action was taken to remove the single from the chart

So the Modern’s problem seems to be the stupidity of the method that they used and not the fact that they where cheating the system.

Mind the records are so poor that they where bound to get caught.

Satellite v Cable: The Winner Is…

The Dish On Satellite TV Versus Cable TV

A fierce battle is carrying on between satellite TV and cable TV in America. While cable has lots of option with numerous providers, satellite also has lots of choices but only two providers – DishNetwork and DirectTV. The choice between the services is such a close call that it boils down to preference. Some cable fans quickly point out that satellite is a fair-weather friend and some satellite fans boast of satellites versatility in channels. You be the judge and weigh each side.

In the United States, satellite TV subscribers have a choice between Direct TV and DishNetwork. Cable TV providers, on the other hand, are more abundant. Most cable subscribers choose either basic cable or digital cable. Digital cable has many more options than basic cable. Both satellite and cable hook up with DSL Internet service, HDTV, TiVo, parental control and other fun features. However, to get these services, you’ll need extra equipment. Satellite TV scores one up on cable in this round: high definition reception automatically comes through satellite TV, whereas cable TV currently makes customers pay extra for this reception. This advantage will soon end once HD is mandatory on all new sets and all channels will come through HD. The time-line for this change in the United States is anticipated by the year 2007.

The more options the better, according to many subscribers. Satellite wins hands down in this arena, although cable undoubtedly carries lots of channels. Many fans of satellite TV believe its reception is crisper and love the fact you can interact with many channels. You can also watch a satellite sports channel and turn off the broadcaster or watch a sports event and leave out commercials. Cable TV may soon catch up since it’s trying out a few new interactive channels such as Time Warner Cable’s interactive games and sports news.

Cable TV doesn’t limit all you TVs to broadcasting the same channel on every TV. You can watch different channels on different TVs. This isn’t so easy to do with satellite TV. You need a separate receptor box to get a different reception than what’s showing on a different TV. However, one receptor box can be hooked up to as many as 6 sets. The satellite TV providers are now offering these boxes for free rather than charging for additional boxes in the past. Even though cable TV comes through a cable line hooked up to your TV, cable seems to win in this department.

While weather can sometimes affect cable reception, a lot more can interfere with satellite TV signals. A satellite TV dish needs to be obstruction-free to the south of where it’s placed (reception of satellite TV comes from the South). Most subscribers have their dish located either on their roof or porch. While some homeowner associations and landlords try to ban this placement, homeowners and renters have FCC regulations on their side.

No one can say for sure who’s winning in the battle between cable and satellite. The call appears very close. Whichever service you decide has more to do with your preference for one option or another since the costs even look close and the issues look pretty upfront. So, which side are you on?

Persistence at the Start Really Pays Off

When you finally start a system of prospecting you expect everything to function like clockwork. You develop your wording and practice it until you know it cold. You determine how many calls you need to make per week and also when you will make them.

As you go about this process you also know that you will not always accomplish your goal with each prospect on that first contact but you know that now, with a system, your success rate will be a lot better than in the past.

Then you start out those first couple of weeks and find out that you aren’t ready for retirement yet. Everyone is not buying your products as you expected them to.

You are disappointed and think about going back to your old way of prospecting which was probably “whenever it was convenient.” But you keep on with your new systematic approach for a couple more weeks. Finally after a couple of months you decide to do an analysis to see if you are really any better off than before.

This is when you make the pleasant realization that your systematic approach to prospecting is a “zillion times” better than what you were doing before.

You see that the first benefit of your system is that you actually made all of the prospecting calls that you said you were going to do. That, in and of itself should be reason enough to stick with the system approach.

But another realization is that you have made a tremendous number of new contacts that will develop into business for you. Some of these people visited with you when you showed up for your prospecting call, others set an appointment for you to return, still others weren’t ready right now but will be in the future.

You now realize that as long as you keep doing this you will have a virtually unlimited source of new customers.
Now you realize that other parts of your system have great importance. Those are the tracking and follow up systems. You need to know who you called on and when to get back to them.

As you continue, you see that a simple system of making prospecting calls on a regular weekly basis, keeping good records of who you call on and when to follow up with them will yield tremendous returns.

It is about this time that you see that being successful in prospecting is really quite simple. In fact you almost feel a bit naive for not realizing this earlier in your career. However, you see that nearly all of the other sales professionals you know aren’t aware of this, so you don’t feel so bad after all.

Further analysis on your part brings new insights to the systematic prospecting process. The fact that you were not startlingly successful right from the start is not unique. Few people start off achieving the success they want.

The point is your average new customers will dramatically increase. But when you are determining averages you have to take in a fair period of time for determining that average. In most cases a few weeks isn’t enough time, especially if you are just starting a new prospecting system. Fine tuning to some degree will probably be required. Even the best baseball players have lulls in their hitting. That is why averages are considered over long periods of time.

Now you can sit back and enjoy the prospecting process along with all of the other aspects of your job. Prospecting is simply another part of your activities, not the horrible thing it once was. As your friends see your new attitude they want to know what has happened. You quickly explain that it is a system for prospecting and the key is persistence at the start really pays off.

Paint a Rosy Picture

You want more bookings. And higher fees. In this short article, I reveal the true story of the strategies I used to get both- and how you can do it too, starting tomorrow morning:

She let me into her living room cautiously, curiously. I quickly selected where I’d put the lamp. If I were to get this dollar-down-dollar-when-you-catch-me account opened, she’d have to find the lamp irresistible. It was a gorgeous Chinese red table lamp, selected with the demographics and psychographics of the neighborhood in mind.

I plugged in the lamp. It changed the spirit of her ordinary living room instantly. When she heard the terms, she got her purse and pushed a dollar bill into my waiting hand. Diamond Furniture had another installment account. (Then a tiny storefront operation, this retailer is now the dominant furniture store in Northeast Philadelphia.)

My prospect saw a rosy picture-with her as the hero. I, working my way through Temple University, had another sale. My Uncle, owner of the store, had an account that might yield many thousands of dollars in repeat sales for long years into the future.

Fast forward 10 years: Now representing an office furniture manufacturer to retailers, I convinced Harvey Blank to buy 1000 catalogs of my products with his company name, Blank Desk, boldly printed on the cover. His prospects would not toss out this resource because it had durable value. When ready to buy, they’d call him. I painted the rosy picture-with Harvey as the hero. He secured a great promotional piece at a token cost. I enjoyed mega-commissions for years to come. Treated my family to a pool in our back yard.

Fast forward another 10 years: Now, I was in smog-infested Los Angeles, selling homesites where the sky is blue and the air is sweet-in sunny Arizona. I described life near great fishing, on the healthy high desert, yet only 20 minutes close to the Hualapai mountains and tall trees. Smiling, I described what life could be like for my prospects on weekends now and full-time after they retired.

I painted a rosy picture-with my prospects as the heroes. The terms were easy enough. He looked at her. “What do you think, honey?” Within 2 minutes we were writing up the deal. By now I was enjoying life in Malibu, looking out over the ocean view from my dining room. Life was sweet.

When I became a self-marketing speaker, I used the same strategies to propel my bookings into the six-figure stratosphere.

What has this to do with you enjoying more success as an expert who speaks? Stay tuned and see how you can cause your world to be your oyster. How you can get more gigs and higher fees. How you can soon enjoy the lifestyle you long for. Here’s how:

In your mind’s eye, place yourself in the mind and heart of your prospect. Your prospect is a decision maker with the need for a topic such as yours-plus the budget and the authority to hire you to speak or train.

Know the features of your program. Know the benefits these features deliver. Reflect on the benefits of the benefits. Let that sink in for a minute. Hmm…The benefits of the benefits. These are the outcomes you deliver. Don’t sell your programs. Instead, market outcomes. These outcomes are the arrows in your quiver.

Confirm that what you can deliver is appropriate for this conference: “What is the purpose of your meeting? What is the theme of your meeting? How do you want your people to feel after I speak? What actions do you want your people to take? What outcomes will make you look great?”

Romance the benefits of these outcomes. “Just picture yourself , the hero who made the difference… Imagine how you’ll feel when… ”

Show them how this decision affects their position. Let them see how good they’ll look because they book you now.

Touch their heart. You gotta touch hearts to detach prospects from their cognitive functions. Lead them into a state of enchantment with your words. Allure them with vivid images. There they are surrounded by the dazzling outcomes now available-but only if they book you before someone else gets you for the date they want what only you can deliver.

When you’re on the phone with a decision maker, speak with passion. Speak with emotion. Speak from your core. Speak from your essence. Speak from the marrow of your bones. Speak from your soul.

The energy in your phrases can inflame desire. Use image-laden words that generate feelings. Create pictures on the canvas of your prospect’s imagination. “Touch them in their tenders, in those soft, unprotected places where decisions are always made. Make them see it. Make them feel it. Make them understand. Make them care! Let your prospects feel your feelings. Let them feel your passion for the values and outcomes you deliver.” (Gerry Spence.)

Energy (or Prana or Chi) is pure and on it’s own, is always balanced positive. It is the basic power brick on which the Cosmos is built upon. However, depending upon the Karma of the Person, Land and Building, it/he receives energy either as positive or negative. Then the percentage of the positive or negative energy that it/he receives culminates in positive or negative events of it’s/his life. Unlike Land and Building, the Person moves. Where the Person moves, his Karma follows. So do the Energy Beams that he receives from the 8 Directions. It does not matter what direction he is moving or facing, it does not matter whether he is in India or America, he keeps receiving the same Energy Beams with the same Quality (Positive or Negative) and Quantity (Percentage), until the change is destined or brought about.

Question 3 : You spoke of Horoscope & Karma. Are you saying that both can be rectified ?

Yes ofcourse. All the Planetary Energies are received by a person through the 8 Directional Energies only. By filtering or/and transforming them, you pacify the planets, remove the effects of problems like female curses, planetary & pithru doshas, etc. In other words, you rectify the Birth Horoscope itself. In fact, there is a more sophisticated process with which I undertake Karma Correction itself. This process minimises the bad karma to such an extent that one simply doesn’t feel it’s impact at all.

Question 4 : So then what is “House Energy Correction” ?

House Energy Correction is a two fold process. In the first fold, Personal Energy Correction (including Horoscope Rectification) for all the residing family members is done. In the second fold, the Five Elements of the Land and the House are fully balanced. In other words, the Karma of the Lands, Home and the People living there are integrated, cleansed, tuned and balanced. That is called House Energy Correction.

Sub-Question : What are the controlling Five Elements of Nature ?

The controlling Five Elements of Nature are also known as the Pancha Pranas or the Pancha Bhoodhas : Earth (Bhoomi), Water (Jala), Fire (Agni), Air (Metal, Vaayu), and Ether (Wood, Sky, Spirit, Space, Aakash).

Question 5 : Once corrected, how long do these positive effects last ?

In my process, once corrected, the energies stay corrected. That is because I use Crystals as my Energy Tools. Unlike any other remedies, Crystals last for hundreds of years. Plus the Crystal Programming Techniques that I use are extremely powerful, time-tested and bestowed by the Ancient Ones or the Sacred Siddhas. That is why I say the positive effects will atleast last for 3 generations. The Energy Corrections that I undertake are done through custom built Crystal Energy Fields.

Question 6 : Can you eloborate more on these Crystal Energy Fields ?

The Crystal Energy Fields are created by numerous Crystals arranged in a special formation, after being programmed and energised for executing specific tasks for specified people. The quality, colour, nature and shape of the Crystals needed for House Energy Correction depends on the Karma of the Family. Some of the crystal energy shapes that I use for Energy Correction are Maha Meru, Stupa, Vajra, Viswa Vajra, Rahu or Vajra Phurba, etc. I also use exclusive crystal shapes like Maha Meru with Viswa Vajra, Ashta Vajra Stupa and Ashta Vajra Maha Sakthi Chakra.

Question 7 : How do you determine the type and number of Crystals that are needed for a particular family or business ?

By Clairvoyance or Sookshma Drishti, I scan the energy levels of the People, Lands & the Buildings. Without it you cannot practice Energy Correction. I also use certain Divining Tools like Tarot Decks, Runes & I-Ching Coins, if and when needed.

Question 8 : Are there many models of Crystal Energy Fields ?

Yes, there are very many models. Some are very sophisticated and more powerful than others. Some are for specific tasks like bringing together estranged couple, concieving a child or solving psychic problems or breaking black magic. Some of them are dedicated for Business Energy Correction.
