Katie Holmes
Katie Holmes, a.k.a. Joey Potter on Dawson’s Creek, was born in Toledo, Ohio on December 18, 1978. A 4.0 student at the all-girl high school Notre Dame Academy, she registered a 1310 SAT score. Katie was accepted at Columbia University where she attended a summer session.
Prior to taking on the role of the tomboyish and headstrong but emotionally sensitive Joey Potter in Dawson’s Creek, Katie was busy doing school musicals at their neighboring school, the all-male St. John’s Jesuit high school. She starred in the musicals Hello, Dolly! and Damn Yankees. In fact, when The WB called her for the Joey Potter auditions, Katie was unavailable because she was in the middle of play rehearsals. Nevertheless, she won the part after sending a videotaped audition for the role. The show’s director, Kevin Williamson, and executive producer, Paul Stupin, immediately knew they had found Joey Potter as soon as they saw Katie’s audition tape.
Katie’s first movie was Ang Lee’s art film The Ice Storm. Her most popular movie, however, is Batman Begins, where she was paired with Christian Bale.
Katie married Tom Cruise in Italy in 2006. Their adorable daughter, Suri, is now 2 years old. The actress is currently rehearsing for her Broadway debut in October via Arthur Miller’s All My Sons.
