Stephen Schwarzman’s Philanthropic Efforts
Business investor Stephen Schwarzman is best known as the chief executive officer, chairman and founding partner of the Blackstone Group, a world-renowned private equity and financial consultancy business formed in 1985.
At the peak of his success through his company, he has been involved in various charity causes. In fact, he has financed these establishments:
the American Museum of Natural History,
Asia Society,
the Inner-City Scholarship Fund,
Whitney Museum,
Red Cross and
Phoenix House
Stephen Schwarzman also donated money to the American Jewish Committee as well as a whole new football stadium for Abington High School, where he studied earlier in his years. In addition, he actively supports the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts by acting as its board of trustees’ 5th chairman.
Last year (2008), Stephen Schwarzman endowed $100 million worth of donation to the Public Library in New York. This funding would be put to good use in making the library’s Central Library quarters into a book research and borrowing section. Not only has he funded the establishment, but he is also a member of the board of trustees. As a token of appreciation for his generous donation, the 1911 Beaux Arts structure on 5th Avenue would be called the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, which is expected to complete construction by the year 2014.
