There appears to be a rekindling of interest in office space premises, as revealed by recent developments. Landlords may even reconsider scrapping some of their long-pending projects to make more room for tenants.

The Carlyle Group’s Piccadilly Place may soon have the Equality and Human Rights Commission as one of its residents. The organisation has been on the lookout for suitable premises for quite some time now. The final decision and subsequent announcements may be forthcoming soon. The new premises will give the organisation about 40,000 sq ft of operational space. They are expected to shift base from Arndale Tower in the near future. The group is also looking at Booth Street in Belvedere as a backup location.

EC Harris and Eon may jointly work out of new office space in the centre of the city. This is expected to happen sometime soon, and will earmark a sizeable amount of vacant office space for the two groups. The property consultants and the power company are rumoured to be very close to clinching a satisfactory deal in this regard.

The Learning & Skills Council is also expected to move base owing to their need for larger office space. They are expected to make a decision in this regard and shift operations to an office that will offer them an area of at least 20,000 square feet. The likely locations are Piccadilly Place and No. 1 New York Street in Bruntwood.

With these developments, about 75,000 sq ft of office space is expected to be tenanted soon. The real estates market will receive a much-needed boost owing to tenants speeding up their selection process due to fears that developers may be forced by poor financials to scrap some promising projects.
